Promotion codes for gift certificates

Promotion codes allow you to issue a gift certificate at a reduced price but retain the value of the gift certificate to be used against events.

This flexibility allows for a variety of uses, such as purchase incentives, multi-event passes at discounted rates and issuing gift certificates at zero cost.

Setting up gift certificate promotion codes

To set up a promotion code for gift certificates:

1. From the left menu, click Dashboard
2. From the left menu, click Gift certificates then click Gift certificate promotion code
3. Click Add
   
4. Give the promotion code a unique name. This will appear on your reports
5. Enter in the code that is to be used on checkout to apply the discount
6. If you want to reduce your gift certificate by a percentage, select Yes to Percentage. Select No to discount your gift certificate by a set dollar amount
7. Set the Value to reflect your discount
   • If your code is for 50% off, set the value to 50.00. If your code is for $20 off, set the value to 20.00
8. Indicate the date period that the code can be used in
9. Set Auto apply to your preferred option. In most cases, you set this field to NO. If you select YES, your customers will automatically receive the discount without needing to enter the code on checkout.
10. Set Inclusive to other promotion (discount)? to your preferred option. You only need to consider this option if you have more than 1 promotion code. By selecting this option it will allow the customer to receive both discounts when codes are entered.
11. Click Save and close

Issuing gift certificates at no cost

Gift certificates can often be used interchangeably with promotion codes, allowing for a unique code that expires after use.

To produce the gift certificate code, the gift certificate needs to be issued using a promotion code that reduces the cost by 100%.

To issue a gift certificate at no cost:

1. From the left menu, click Dashboard
2. From the left menu, click Gift certificates then click Gift certificate promotion code
3. Click Add
   
4. Give the promotion code a unique name. This will appear on your reports
5. Enter in the code that is to be used on checkout to apply the discount
6. Select Yes to Percentage
7. Set the Value to 100
8. Set Auto apply to No
9. Click Save and close
10. With the promotion code in place, from the left menu, click Gift certificates then click Buy gift certificate
11. Select the desired quantity of gift certificates (100 max per transaction)
12. At the shopping cart enter in the promotion code, and click Apply

Assign promotion codes to particular gift certificates

By default, a promotional code will be applied to all gift certificates set up on an account.

To restrict the use of the promotion code to particular gift certificates:

1. From the left menu, click Dashboard
2. From the left menu, click Gift certificates then click Gift certificate promotion code
3. Click on the name of your promotional code
4. Click on the tab Applicable Gift Certificates
5. Move the gift certificates to either the left, which will apply the code to those gift certificates, or the right, which won't
6. Click Save
