Allow gift certificates to be purchased and then redeemed against your events. Set multiple gift certificate and validity periods.
Gift certificates having a defined value can be used also for prize winners, sponsors, special offers and even packaged with a value allowing for a multiple of series buying such as a film festival.
Each gift certificate will have a defined value and a validity period and have the recipient's name included on it automatically. Gift certificates can only be used on TryBooking for events from your account (i.e. the one that they are issued from).
You may wish to add a gift certificate link to your website ready to promote for Christmas or that special occasion.
Gift certificates are set up, managed and can be reviewed from the dashboard
- Setting up gift certificates
- Styling gift certificates
- Buying and issuing a gift certificate
- Finding and refunding a gift certificate
- Reporting on a gift certificate
You first need to set up as many different valued gift certificates as needed. This is completed via Manage Gift Certificates.
If you are setting up the gift certificate to be the full value of a ticket type you have on sale, ensure that you include the booking fee in the value for the gift certificate.
If you are going to link your gift certificates to your website, remember people will see your complete listing. You are able to add in special ones at times, issue them off and then remove that special certificate from general view.
You are also able to define a validity period to the gift certificate. If you are using this for online purchases, please consider setting this as 12 months - which lines up with the Visa / Mastercard expiry timeframe. Once you have completed the basic information on each certificate you can link styles and Terms and Conditions to each one as demonstrated below.
The standard gift certificate from TryBooking has the following appearance.
As per ticket styles, you can create a custom gift certificate via Gift Certificate Styles or you can add watermark images to the background of your ticket. To learn how to create a background image or work with styling gift certificates, please refer to adding images to a ticket.
If you intend to issue gift certificates to sponsors, members, competition winners, special helpers etc. and use them largely for internal purposes, you will need to first set up a promotional code to once again bypass the credit card screen. This screen is similar to using promotional codes via tickets.
If you are running an online special, you may offer 50% off gift certificates valued at $200, by adding in a limited time promotional code and then indicating that it applies to only a certain value certificate.
You can purchase certificates by clicking on (internal use) BUY GIFT CERTIFICATES or copying and linking the URL to your website (for online use).
The screens for buying gift certificates are similar to those of purchasing tickets.
- Firstly, it will step the user through selecting the type of certificate
- Next, by adding in gift recipients details
- And finally onto the Shopping Cart screen. If you are processing gift certificates for internal use, you will enter your promotional code in the shopping cart.
Each time a gift certificate is used, it will surrender the value used on checkout. Small residuals can be used in combination with credit cards as shown below. When purchasing gift certificates, a booking fee will be applied per gift certificate. Normal TryBooking processing fees will apply on these transactions.
Finding and refunding gift certificates
Within the Gift Certificate area, click on either Find Gift Certificate or Refund Gift Certificate depending on what you're wishing to access. Simply enter in a few of the transaction details and click search. When refunding, you are able to tick the box next to the transaction result and click refund. These 2 functions behave as per finding and refunding tickets.
You can track your gift certificates in a number of ways:
- Generating a report between a specified date range
- A promotion or by a code name over a specified date range
- A specified time frame and summary of values balances and validity
- Usage of gift certificates over a given time frame
- A specific gift certificate and its overall history
When used for purchasing tickets, gift certificates will show up as a discount and will show up on the appropriate reports as to which gift certificate was used.
